Police: GlobalFoundries Employee Dies of Self-Inflicted Injuries

ESSEX, Vt. - A death investigation is ongoing after police say a GlobalFoundries employee died of self-inflicted injuries.

Police say they responded to GlobalFoundries just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday for a medical call.

Investigators say the man, whose name is not being released, was transported to UVM Medical Center in Burlington where he was pronounced dead.

Essex Police Captain George Murtie said a weapon was recovered at the scene. He declined to say what type of weapon.

“There is no ongoing threat or safety concern for anyone at GlobalFoundries or the Essex community,” an Essex Police Department press release stated.

GlobalFoundries spokesperson Jim Keller said in an email, “I can acknowledge that there was an emergency situation involving a GLOBALFOUNDRIES' employee on the Essex Junction campus this morning, which required a response by local emergency services. The Essex police have reported that this individual was transported to the hospital.”

Keller said he did not have any additional information to share about the investigation. He did say the plant is open.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
