Police Identify Two Killed in Essex Crash; Speed May Be Factor

Police have identified two people killed in a car crash overnight in Essex.

Police say the driver, Nicholas Lizewski, 21, and his passenger, Kaylin Mitchell, 18, both of Essex, were killed in a car crash that happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Fort Parkway at Ethan Allen Avenue.

“The vehicle was traveling eastbound, initially went out of control, crossed the median, crossed the westbound lane, and struck a utility pole on the west side of the highway,” said Essex police Lt. Ken Beaulieu, in an interview.

Beaulieu said speed may be a factor in the crash, and noted the intersection has been an issue in the past.

“Over the past six years or so they added a traffic light at that intersection. It used to be a stop sign regulated intersection,” said Beaulieu. “It’s cut down the amount of action we’ve had at that intersection.”

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
