Police: Maidstone Woman, Estranged Husband Dead

MAIDSTONE, Vt. - Vermont State Police say a woman who was found with serious injuries outside a home in Maidstone died Wednesday evening.

Police say the woman’s estranged husband, Jason McLain, also died at a hospital in New Hampshire from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Vermont State Police say troopers received multiple 911 calls Wednesday evening about an ongoing incident in the area of 5545 Route 102. Police say one caller reported a man chasing a woman with a knife on foot, and another caller reported hearing a gunshot.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they found Jason McLain alive, but with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a home at 5545 Route 102, police said. Investigators say he was transported to Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, New Hampshire, and later sent to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where he died.

Police say McLain’s estranged wife, Molly McLain, was found outside a home with serious injuries to her head and torso, including a stab wound. Police say she was transported to Weeks Memorial Hospital where she died.

Police say the couple’s children, ages two and four, were found unharmed at a neighbor’s home. A caller reported Jason McLain dropped off the two children at the house, police said. The caller told police he had blood on him, and then left on foot.

Investigators say McLain was arrested on June 16 for domestic assault, and was banned from having any contact with his wife, Molly.

Police say a section of Route 102 near the home is closed.

The investigation is ongoing.
