COLCHESTER, Vt. - A man’s body was recovered from Malletts Bay Saturday morning after a canoe overturned, Colchester Police say.
Police say, the report came in just after 9 a.m. from Malletts Bay off Brickyard Road.
“Local residents heard people yelling from the water and were able to pull two men out of the water,” the press release read.
A third male was located and recovered after four hours of searching by Colchester Technical Rescue, Malletts Bay Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Vermont State Police dive team.
Police are withholding the deceased man's name pending notification to the next of kin.
Colchester Police urge anyone with information to contact the Colchester Police Department.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the temperature of the water was 46 degrees and the canoeists were not wearing life jackets.
