Prohibition Era Lounge To Open in Old Barre Firehouse

BARRE, Vt. - A new lounge in the basement of the Old Barre Firehouse takes customers back in time.

The firehouse was home to firefighters dating back to 1904.

In 2017, it’s home to a restaurant, an inn and now, a 1920’s prohibition era, gangster-themed lounge called “Moruzzi’s.”

Valerie Beaudet owns all the businesses.

The lounge opens Monday at 5pm.

Beaudet says, just like during prohibition, there’s a secret password involved.

“There is a password, the password for tomorrow night is Uncle Jimmy, and if you remember it you might win a prize,” said Beaudet. “They don't need the password to get in, they can just come in off the street that’s totally fine. But if they remember the password and someone asks them about it, they could win a prize. So, Uncle Jimmy."

Beaudet named Moruzzi’s after her mother.
