Shaftsbury Woman Dies in ATV Crash in Pownal

Police say operator was not wearing a seatbelt, helmet at the time of the crash

POWNAL, Vt. - According to Vermont State Police, a Shaftsbury woman died after crashing an ATV Friday night.

Around 7 p.m. Friday, Troopers were notified of an ATV crash on an unmaintained road near County Road in Pownal.

Officials say Tammy J. Potter, 50, was operating a 2013 Yamaha ATV when she lost control and was thrown from the ATV.

Potter was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet at the time of the crash; she was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to police.

Members from the Bennington County Sheriff’s Office, Pownal Valley Fire Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department and Pownal Rescue responded.

The crash is still under investigation.
