Social Security Administration Issues Warning About Scam Phone Calls

WSYR-TV - The Social Security Administration issued a warning that schemers are impersonating government agents and trying to steal people’s benefits.

In a post on the agency's website, the Inspector General said people have been receiving calls from a number with a 323 area code.

Callers claim to be an agency employee and ask for personal information.

The scammers then use that information to re-route money sent by direct deposit.

The agency recommends hanging up and then reporting the call at 1-800-269-0271.
