SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - With ongoing tension in the South Burlington School District, some parents want change.
Gwen Bruns and Sheramy Tsai started a petition to prevent two things - both the imposition of contracts, as well as teacher strikes.
The petition encourages lawmakers to create a bipartisan bill to do both.
Both parents experienced the last teacher strike in the district, and say they want to stop a potential pattern from occurring.
"We can't continue to put the children in the middle of these battles between the school board and the teachers union, we need to find a better way for our kids not to put them in the middle so taking away these weapons that both sides use would really take things down a notch," said Tsai.
"The children can't be pawns; that's the biggest thing," said Bruns.
Similar legislation was introduced in Vermont in 2015, but it did not pass.
