The city's proposed new town center would be built off of Dorset Street.
That area was just designated a "Neighborhood Development Area."
That means it's a little easier to build mixed-income and mixed-use projects there. Those developments will not require Act 250 permits.
"Doesn't mean there wouldn't be uncertainty associated with other permitting processes that projects would still need to go through but at least that's one box that can be checked off that does not add three years potentially to a development process," says Ilona Blanchard, project manager.
The special neighborhood designation was approved by the Vermont Downtown Development Board.
