Statistics on 2016–2017 Vermont Ski Season Announced

Killington, Vt. - At the 48 Annual Meeting of the Vermont Ski Areas Association Thursday morning, Ski Vermont announced statistics from the 2016-2017 season.

Ski Vermont helped introduce over 5,000 new skiers and riders to the sloped during the 2016-2017 season as a result of their various programs, according to a press release.

According to a spokesperson from Ski Vermont, despite some rough weather, throughout the winter, Vermont had a record high of 21 Powder Alerts and a total of 3,922,970 visits since the slopes opened.

"This was a strong comeback season for the State of Vermont. Thanks to Winter Storms Caly, Orson, Pluto and Stella, matched with our state's world class snowmakers and snowmaking technology," Vermont had the longest season in the East,"  said Ski Vermont President Riehle.

"That's not only great news for the ski industry, but it was also critical to Vermont's economy which depends heavily on the $900 million in direct winter spending that our ski and snowboard resorts bring to the state in a good season," Riehle added.

Vermont Mountains and Resorts also received numerous awards, including the Best Overall Safety Program, which Stratton Mountain Resort received from the National Ski Areas Association and Liftopia named Magic Mountain the "#1 Top Ski Area in North America", Mad River Glen the "#3 Top Ski Area in North America" and Jay Peak Resort the "#5 Top Ski Area in North America."
