Support Services for Family of Burlington Teen Who Drowned on Lake Champlain

Burlington High School hosting a community remembrance service next week

BURLINGTON, Vt. - A support system has been put in place for the family of Christian Kibabu, the Burlington 17 year-old who drowned near Oakledge Park Monday.

A representative from the Burlington School District says donations in the form of grocery gift cards and household items can be dropped off at the Burlington High School.

Gift cards may be dropped off at Burlington High School from 8AM-4PM, Monday through Friday.

A team member will insure prompt delivery to the family.

A GoFundMe account to assist with the costs associated with the funeral and related expenses has been set up.

On Friday July 21, Burlington High School is hosting a Community Remembrance Service from 1-3PM.

There will be counseling services available to support us during the service. Counseling will be provided by community partners at the Howard Center First Call.

Staff at First Call for Chittenden County can also be reached at http://www.howardcenter.org/First-Call-for-Chittenden-County or at 802.488.7777.

Arrangements for interment are being completed by the family and will soon be made public.

In-school memorial events for students are being thoughtfully planned by the team. They will include a tree planting and additional student fundraising for the family that will honor Christian's passion for soccer.

All inquiries or questions can be answered by the team by contacting Tracy Racicot, BHS Principal at tracicot@bsdvt.org.
