Team USA: Olympic Bobsledder Found Dead in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, NY - An Olympic bobsledder was found dead at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, according to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The committee reports that Steven Holcomb was found dead Saturday morning at the training center.

"The entire Olympic family is shocked and saddened by the incredibly tragic loss today of Steven Holcomb,” said Scott Blackmun, United States Olympic Committee CEO. “Steve was a tremendous athlete and even better person, and his perseverance and achievements were an inspiration to us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Steve's family and the entire bobsledding community.”

Holcomb competed in three Olympic Winter Games, including Vancouver and Sochi, where he won gold and bronze medals, respectively.

He was 37 years old.
