A business owner's Trump campaign sign was standing for less than a week before it was slashed this morning.

For more than 30 years, Pat Boyden has been winding-up his clocks at his Green Mountain Clock Shop in Williston.

But when he looked out his window Tuesday morning he was troubled.

"There was a hole, a visible hole in my sign," says Boyden.

The Trump/Pence campaign sign he put up on Friday had been vandalized.

"This year I was told that probably signs were bad for business, so I didn't put in up until I finally became disgusted and assert my position, which is what I have done," says Boyden.

The Vietnam vet is not shy about his Republican leaning in a blue state. In fact he says when he started his business in the Green Mountain State more than 30 years ago, Vermont was a red state.

"And it changed. I haven't changed. I've been a Republican most of my life, so far anyway," says Boyden.

He argues this election there are more Trump supporters in Vermont than you'd expect.

He says he knows this from a note he found on his door Tuesday morning.

"Carmen came by and left a note on my door, and it says thank you for putting up the sign Trump/Pence sign no one else dares to do it."

Vermonters unknown to Pat have also been walking into his shop to show their support.

Boyden says it's clear someone slashed his sign with a sharp edge. He has reported the incident to the Williston police. As for the current sign, Pat says he plans to replace it or tape the current sign back together.

"I think I can fit or at least make it presentable."

The election is two weeks away, but Pat says his support for Trump will not divide him and the rest of the community.

“I plan on staying here a little longer than that, so I got to get along with the people around me and I expect they'll get along with me in my position.”

Williston police say this is the first report of a vandalized campaign sign this election.
