Two VSP troopers on paid leave as investigators look into fire

Stannard, Vt. - Two Vermont state troopers are on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation into a fire that police say happened on Monday around 12:30 a.m.

Officials say Stephen McGranaghan is the owner of the property where the fire happened, and Jason Haley was at the scene.

Authorities say the Greensboro Fire Department responded to the call Monday, for a fire on Stannard Mountain Road in Stannard.  Crews found an A-frame building fully involved, we're told no one was inside at the time.  The building was destroyed, no one was hurt.

McGranaghan had a permit to burn brush, but did not have a permit to burn the building, according to a release from police.

Officials say the fire chief called state police, and a trooper responded to the scene.  A request was made Monday morning for detectives from the fire investigation unit to investigate, but they were already working on a deadly fire in Chelsea.  Investigators did not arrive in Stannard until Tuesday.

Once the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Attorney General's Office.
