United States Postal Service Launches Mail Tracking Program

SYRACUSE (WSYR-TV) - It's now easier than ever to track your mail. The United States Postal Service has a new service that sends you photos of your mail before it is delivered.

It's called Informed Delivery and sends customers an email with scanned images of the front side of the mail that's scheduled to be delivered to you that day.

Post Offices scan envelopes as part of the everyday automation process that sorts mail. If for some reason a piece of mail is not handled via automation, an image cannot be sent.

The USPS says the program is a way to stay relevant in a world of instant communication.

61.2 billion pieces of first class mail were delivered in 2016, down from 98 billion in 2006.

Informed Delivery is for residential mail customers and you must sign up for it by clicking here.

It is not currently available for mail delivered to P.O. boxes.
