Vermont Agency of Education is Accepting Applications for Vermont Teacher of the Year

Barre, Vt. - The Vermont Agency of Education will now be partnering with the University of Vermont (UVM) on the Vermont Teacher of the Year and the National Teacher of the Year process.

All the educators recognized at the 2016 UVM Outstanding Teacher Day are invited to apply for 2018 Vermont Teacher of the Year. Applications are due July 14.

The applications will be reviewed by a committee of previous Vermont Teachers of the Year, a Principal of the Year and a representative of the Vermont-NEA. That committee will recommend three top finalists to the Agency of Education.

The finalists will be interviewed by the Vermont State Board of Education in September, and the Agency of Education will choose the Vermont Teacher of the Year and the runner-up.

Each participating supervisory union or school district can nominate one elementary/middle school teacher, one high school teacher and one technical center teacher.

Last year's Teacher of the Year was Katherine McCann from U-32 Middle and High School in East Montpelier.

The recipient of 2018 Vermont Teacher of the Year will be Vermont's candidate for the National Teacher of the Year award.
