Vermont: April is Donate Life Month

Monpelier, Vt. -

There was an event on Thursday at the Vermont State House for “Donate Life Month”

State officials and advocates commemorate those how have received or continue to wait for a lifesaving organ transplant.

According to a media release, For the tenth month in a row organ and tissue donation registration rates reached over 50 percent.

Advocates say getting people to be organ or tissue donors starts with education.

“Last year in all of New England there were only 368 individuals who were able to become donors.  I think there's a general conception that organ donation happens on a daily basis and that is not the case.  That being said one individual has the opportunity to save up to 8 people's lives through organ donation and touch over 50 people’s lives through tissue donation," says Matt Boger, New England Donor Services.
