Vermont Communities Celebrate National Night Out

St. Albans, Vt - Communities around the country are celebrating National Night Out, including in Vermont.

It's an event where people can meet local police and first responders.

Kids can check out police cruisers, fire trucks and public works equipment.

The annual event shows the community's solidarity against crime and offers the chance for people tp talk to law enforcement in an informal setting.

"Everything from complaints to compliments about what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong, that kind of thing." Said Ron Hoague, Captain with St. Albans Police. "We also get information from normal citizens who never get a chance to talk to a police officer. they see them driving down the street in their black and white, but they never actually get a chance to talk to them"

There are National Night Out events across the region.

In Milton, Vt. the town asked community members to turn on their porch lights from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. to show Milton's solidarity in preventing crime.
