Vermont Fish & Wildlife Announces Waterfowl Hunting Season

Montpelier, Vt. - On Tuesday, the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department announced the 2017–2018 migratory bird hunting season dates and bag limits.

The open hunting season for resident Canada geese will be from Sept. 1–25. In the Connecticut River Zone, the daily bag limit is five geese. Everywhere else in the state, it's eight.

A second Canada goose hunting season will be from Oct. 11–Nov. 29 for migrant and resident birds in the Lake Champlain and Interior Vermont Zones. The daily bag limit will be three Canada geese.

In the Connecticut River Zone, the additional Canada goose season will be Oct. 3–Nov. 5 and Nov. 22–Dec. 27 with a daily limit of three geese.

Duck hunting season is split in the Lake Champlain Zone, running from Oct.11–15 and Nov. 7–Dec. 31. The Connecticut River Zone duck season is also split going from Oct. 3–Nov. 5 and Nov. 22–Dec. 17. The Interior Vermont Zone's season is from Oct. 11–Dec. 9.

Woodcock hunting season statewide is Oct. 1–Nov. 14 with a bag limit of three birds.

Vermont's Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend will be Sept. 23–24. Hunters 17 and younger can hunt ducks and geese in the Lake Champlain and Interior Vermont Zones while accompanied by an adult who's at least 18. In the Connecticut River Zone, youth must be 15 or younger.

For the Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend, adults cannot hunt or carry a gun.

All hunters must have Vermont hunting licenses, and waterfowl hunters aged 16 and up need state and federal duck stamps to hunt in Vermont.
