Vermont Fish & Wildlife Investigating Moose Poaching Case

WESTMORE, Vt - Game Wardens from Vermont Fish & Wildlife are looking for your help in solving a moose poaching case that happened in Westmore on September 23.

Wildlife officials say the cow moose was shot from the road at night. Poachers allegedly dragged the animal behind a truck for 11 miles to the town of Orleans.

A media release states that the moose was lactating so she people had a calf recently. According to officials the moose was left on the side of Route 58 in Orleans to rot.

“These poachers demonstrated tremendous disrespect for the law and for this moose,” said Col. Jason Batchelder, Vermont’s chief game warden.

“We’re asking for anyone with information about this incident to come forward so that we can hold the people that did this accountable,” added Batchelder.
