According to a media release, the Vermont National Guard Airmen from the 158th Fighter Wing will be deploying for duty on Wednesday evening.

Officials say a few hundred airmen and their families are at the Vermont National Guard prior to their deployment.

Last month sources told Local 22 & Local 44 hundreds of members of the Air Guard would be deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility to fight terrorism.

That area includes North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia. For security and safety reasons, we’ve decided to withhold the exact location.

Local 22 & 44 first broke the story in November that the guard could possibly be deployed.  Following our report, Vermont Adjutant Major General Steven Cray admitted the 158th Fighter Wing was preparing for a possible deployment.

At a press conference the next day, Cray announced the Air Guard received its official orders, but declined to give details on the mission.
