Vermont Stand Down to Help Local Homeless Veterans

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Local veterans in need are invited to Vermont Stand Down for Veterans Saturday, Sept. 30.

The free, all day event is being hosted by the Barre Area Veterans Council from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Barre Auditorium in Barre, Vermont.

The event is open to all veterans, homeless or at-risk and their families. Those that attend will be offered showers, haircuts as well as basic necessities such as hot meals, winter clothing, toiletries and other cold weather items.

“We’ve got well over 100,000 homeless veterans in our country. That is not acceptable. Here in Vermont, we want to do all we can to start turning their lives around,” Ron Tallman of the Barre Area Veterans Council said.

The BAVC is asking you to spread the word and the invitation to all veterans in need around our state. If you need or can offer a ride you’re asked to contact Chuck Barney, Chair of the BAVC at 802-522-5639 or email him at barrevetcouncil@gmail.com.
