Once the competition ends each piece of art will be judged by three judges. They’ll be looking for how everything gets put together on the canvas, the message, and the materials which are used.
Then, the art will be put up for auction and half of the proceeds will go to the Shelburne Craft School. Everyone is invited to come to Wall to Canvas, ask the artists questions, listen to live music and enjoy a Magic Hat beer if you’re 21 and over.
Along with donating half of the auction funds to Shelburne Craft School the $5 admission cost will also be donated. This money will help the nonprofit fund for the classes that are offered.
According to the schools executive director, Sage Tucker-Ketcham, the schools mission is to inspire creativity for all ages but was originally created for wood-working. Now, they offer classes ranging from a clay studio to a metal workshop and have classes for all ages and skill levels.
Magic Hat supports the arts by incorporating it into the brand. By hosting Wall to Canvas the brewery supports the local craft school and this hits home for retail and marketing manager, Dani Gleason.
”All throughout the year we’ve been huge advocates of art so this is just one way we can give back,” said Gleason.
For some of the artists they also believe that what matters most is the opportunity to give back to the school.
“It’s just for fun, I like to get down here, freestyle, let some paint fly, hope somebody likes what I create and then buy it and support the Shelburne Craft School and keep the craft alive,” said Brian Clark.
Clark, an artist that will be at the event on Saturday, will be working in competition with the other eleven artists. And this year, you can get involved in the competition too by using your art skills with the community art project.
Artist, Abby Manock created an opportunity for the entire community to be involved in at Wall to Canvas. It’s called, “Monkey’s vs. Bananas.” While you get to watch other artist’s paint, now you can get creative and help complete the art work with any design you want.
