SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Burlington International Airport will host its first wedding Saturday evening. It's a story we first told you about last fall.

A Burlington couple will tie the knot, then celebrate with a reception on the mezzanine level of the terminal.

A total of 135 guests are expected to attend the wedding, which should've cost $40,000. Local vendors, however, donated many services and goods for the first-ever airport event, reducing the final price tag by some 95%.

Airport Director of Aviation Gene Richards says, “we’re thrilled to be hosting the first ever wedding reception at BTV. The Airport is an affordable community asset that extends far beyond just aviation and we hope that events like these will further demonstrate the wide array of possibilities and benefits that the facilities provide to the community."

The bride-to-be is equally as excited.

"I like not fitting into the mold of weddings and I love being creative. But most of all I wanted to change the perception of a wedding at an airport," she said.

In staying with the airport theme, invitations to the wedding were made to look like boarding passes.
