Jason Schofield appeared in federal court Wednesday afternoon to answer to charges of knowingly and intentionally distributing heroin.
Court documents say Schofield sold bags of heroin marked DO NOT ENTER that caused the overdoses.
An informant told a detective from the Vermont State Police Drug Task Force that when Schofield sold him the drugs, he told him to be "careful" and only do a bag at a time because "everybody has been falling out on this (expletive)."
An undercover detective wrote in an affidavit that he purchased heroin from Schofield. Schofield was arrested after that.
Schofield said in court Wednesday that he works at the Anchorage Inn.
He is being held without bail until a detention hearing. The U.S. District Attorney Tristam Coffin has entered a motion to keep him in jail until his trial, because he poses a danger to the community and is a flight risk.
