BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Burlington School District's audit was released Wednesday.

A press release says the audit found two areas of significant deficiency. The first is the current deficit and the second is concerns over control disbursements.

“This audit is an important first step in helping us understand the financial challenges the district faces," Patrick Halladay, Board Chair, said. "The good news is that there are no material weaknesses. As we move forward, the deficiencies will inform the direction the district's financial cure plan assumes. Our goal is to understand our budget better and use this knowledge to design smarter programs with sustainable funding and financial controls.”

In prior years, the Burlington School District's audit was part of the City's audit. This year the district's audit was done separately and is handled similarly as the Burlington Electric audits.

A press release says the audit combined the deficits from FY2012 and FY2013 because the FY2012 deficit Vermont funding guidelines were not retired until FY2014.
