It gives city workers access to free use of bicycles for work-related and even for fun during the workday.
Blue cross of Vermont, the city's health insurance carrier is funding the fleet of 15 two-wheelers. The intent is to encourage an active healthy lifestyle and help drive down healthcare cost
"This is a step forward towards this whole move towards being a more active city," Mayor Miro Weinberger said. "It is one that has been done in a very thoughtful way with a lot of partners."
In addition to the wellness benefit, the bike share cuts done on the city's carbon footprint, frees up downtown parking for shoppers and visitors. A bike can sometimes be faster than a car for short trips.
