BRATTLEBORO, Vt. - The Brattleboro Police Department is warning residents that someone, claiming to be from Microsoft, is able to gain access to private computers. This is a scam.

Police say victims are being called by Nielson Paul from a Skype phone number. The caller will tell the victims that their computer is about to crash and their computer is being controlled by the caller. Victims are then told that they are eligible for a refund from the company he is representing. In order to get a refund, the victim must send money to an unknown location in India.

Police say individuals who receive this call should not wire money to unknown people or locations. If contacted from a well known company and are unsure if the person is legitimate, police advise to have them call back later.

Any questions regarding this scam should contact the Brattleboro Police Department at (802)-257-7950.
