MONTPELIER, Vt. - The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department announced federal grants are available for projects that help improve boating pump-out facilities at marinas across Vermont.

A press release says typical project proposals are from marinas that want to construct or upgrade pump-out facilities to assist boaters in properly disposing of sewage. Eligible projects can receive federal funding for construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of pump-outs and dump stations used by boaters.

“This is great news for anyone who cares about clean water and boating in Vermont,” said Mike Wichrowski who oversees the grant process for Vermont Fish & Wildlife. “These facilities are meant to assist boaters with on-board sewage holding tanks to properly dispose of their black water. Having more money for pump-out facilities makes it easier for boaters to do the right thing and have their on-board holding tanks pumped out and sent to a sewage treatment plant.”

Anyone interested in applying for these funds is encouraged to contact Fish & Wildlife at (802)-828-1000. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2014.
