The Colchester Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam where callers are pretending to be the IRS, and demanding money.

Police say the phone calls are coming from a variety of numbers, but most recently from numbers with a ‘202’ area code.

Some callers have personal information, including the last four digits of a social security number of a home address, according to police. Some residents are also being threatened with court and law enforcement action if they don’t comply with their requests.

Police say residents should not give out their personal information.

If you have any questions or concerns, call police at 802-264-5555.
