Construction on New Sewage Pipeline in Montpelier Underway
By Joe Gullo
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Construction on a new sewage pipeline in Montpelier is well underway as of last Monday.
Work has started on River Street and stretches from #141 to #263. This will replace the old pipeline which runs underneath the sidewalk.
Montpelier Department of Public Works says they're using a method called pipe bursting, which means crews won't have to tear up the ground to put the new pipeline in. This also means less traffic delays and less disruption.
"To try to maintain two lanes of traffic for the duration of the project so that we can minimize the impacts that this has on residents and people traveling through River Street," Zach Blodgett, Engineering Technician at the Montpelier Department of Public Works, said. "The great thing is they've been very communicative about all the steps involved, sending out a letter to all the neighborhood residents a few weeks ago giving them the schedule and the time frame"
The project is scheduled to last 90 days. Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week.
