EAST MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Construction on the Sand Hill Bridge in East Middlebury means traffic is closed for another month on Route 125.

VTRANs expects the project to be completed by June 2. In the meantime drivers are asked to take Route 73, which is a nineteen mile detour. The construction team says the improvements to the new bridge will be well worth the wait.

"We're widening the bridge from 24 feet to 36 so it's going to be a lot safer for vehicular and pedestrian tarffic. We're adding a five foot sidewalk and we're adding a new parking area so it'll be a lot safer for boaters, swimmers, things like that," Project Inspector Samantha Davis-Hiscook said.

The new Sand Hill Bridge replaces the original that was built in 1924.
