MONTPELIER - Dean Corren has official won the Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor, receiving 3,874 write-ins on the Democratic ticket.

Corren was a candidate on the Progressive ballot, but mounted a write-in campaign for the vacant spot on the Democratic ballot.

He'll be running against Republican Phil Scott, who received more than 15,000 votes in last week's primary.

We asked Gov. Shumlin who he would be supporting for his second-in-command.

"You know that I have endorsed Dean Corren, I think he's got it right on healthcare. Phil and I work very closely together. He understands I support Democratic candidates for statewide office, I understand he supports Republican candidates for statewide office," Shumlin said.

Corren released a statement on the official write-in results Tuesday:

“I am grateful to Democratic Party leaders from Gov. Shumlin on down who have been open to my platform and message of unity so we can address the hard work facing us together. And I’m grateful to all those who took the extra effort to write me in."
