BURLINGTON, Vt. - After just one month of distributing the medicine as part of a state pilot program, the HowardCenter says it's already saving lives.

Narcan is a medicine that can reverse the effects of a drug overdose if administered quickly enough.

"We've only been distributing the medication for about a month," Bob Bick, Director of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services at the HowardCenter, said. "In the first week, first weekend actually, someone was saved as a result of that distributation and subsequent to that three additional lives have been saved."

Narcan can also be used to combat fentanyl overdoses, the cause of three Addison county deaths in January alone.
