VERMONT- Bear hunting season opens Labor Day!

The early season stretches from Labor Day until November 14th.

The late season runs from November 15th to the 23rd.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife said the hunting season helps manage the bear population in Vermont, now estimated at around 6,000 bears, which is pretty high.

Hunters took 556 bears last year in the state.

Just a reminder, early bear hunting season requires a special bear tag.
