BURLINGTON, Vt. - Fletcher Allen received the Gold Worksite Wellness Award from the Vermont Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.  State Health Commissioner Harry Chen presented the award on Friday to Fletcher Allen President and CEO John Brumsted, M.D.

A press release says the award recognizes leadership support for wellness initiatives that engaged 35 percent of Fletcher Allen's 7,200 employees.

"Vermont employers have come to understand that physically fit workers are more productive and invested in their careers and business leaders see the benefits of worksite wellness programs to their bottom line," said Janet Franz, chair of the Governor's Council.

Some elements under Fletcher Allen's programs include tobacco cessation, fitness challenges, and testing of basic health indicators like blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
