RUTLAND, Vt. - Green Mountain Power (GMP) says storm power restoration work will go well into the weekend. The most extensive damage from Thursday's storms was along Route 4 around Poultney, Springfield, and Sunderland.

GMP says they restored power to more than 20,000 customers overnight, but 3,000 remain out as of Friday afternoon.

“The reported 70 mile per hour winds brought down hundreds of trees onto lines and broke dozens of poles,” said Dorothy Schnure, GMP corporate spokesperson. “Each of these events needs a line crew and a tree crew, and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to make repairs to half a day or more if the damage is extensive.”

Power crews from Canada and southern New England are arriving Friday to help restore power.
