MONTPELIER, Vt. - Gov. Peter Shumlin (D-Vermont) has endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for President in 2016.

The Democratic Governor hadn't endorsed anyone for the primary until Wednesday, when he tweeted out a message from his campaign account, "Shumlin for Governor" (@PeterShumlin). He hasn't tweeted from that account since the November election.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is running against Clinton in the Democratic primary, but many Vermont politicians are endorsing Clinton including Sen. Patrick Leahy and Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger.

Shumlin's tweet said: Proud to endorse —a lifelong champion for everyday Americans. -Peter

Spokesperson Scott Coriell said Shumlin "has tremendous respect for Senator Sanders.....Hillary Clinton has been fighting her whole life for everyday Americans and the Governor believes she is the right person to lead America as the next President of the United States."
