Man Accused of Stealing Another Historical Document

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Police say the man accused of stealing a historical document may have stolen another historical documents.

Patrick Rooney, 55, of Colchester, Vt., is accused of stealing a 180+ document titled Chittenden County Road Commissioners 1828-1831. Police say he then tried to sell it. The document has been recovered and returned to its owner.  

Rooney is also accused of stealing a 220+ document written in 1791 regarding the town of Sterling, Vt.

Area libraries are being reminded to check their collections for missing items and to remain vigilant for suspicious activity.

Here is a list of items that police say were recovered during their investigation.

Rooney is due in court next week to answer to the charges of petit larceny and sale of stolen property. He faces not more than a year in prison, a $1,000 fine, or both.
