CHARLOTTE, VT- Memorial Day Weekend also brings the opening of many state parks in our area.

We caught up with one woman who celebrates her birthday every year by hiking Mount Philo.

"Easy access, everyone can get access by the road or the path and its just a  place people can come and enjoy the great outdoors," said Peggy Owen Sands, a hiker at Mt. Philo.

"The hiking is great, short hike, big reward. We have a small campground. 10 sites. Its close, its local, and its really affordable and its great for folks that want to begin camping because its quiet," said John Frigault a Park Ranger at Mt. Philo.

Some parks won't open until the end of June due to high water on Lake Champlain.
