MILTON, Vt. -

A false alarm shooting in Milton had police unnecessarily busy on Saturday. Officials say a man called 911 on himself saying someone shot him.

This all happened in the woods behind the Milton Diner on Route 7. State troopers, Colchester Police, and even a K9 unit were on the scene searching for a shooter that, they say, didn't exist.

“At this point there were a lot of resources, thousands of dollars of resources spent on this,” explained Detective Corpporal Paul Lake of the Milton Police Department. “Looking for a man who was actually shot in the woods. To turn out to be a false public alarm, it’s upsetting.”

29-year-old Lewis Gagne of Milton has been taken into custody and charged with false public alarm.
