An Old North End street in Burlington is set to be permanently closed. Spring St., adjacent to Dewey Park, will be closing for good on September 8th.
The community-inspired road closure process started a few years ago.
The main reason is safety but also for more green space.
Burlington Parks and Recreation is trying to create more park space per neighborhood in the city.
The long-term goal is to make Dewey Park bigger.
“In the meantime, we'd like to make that space available for other recreation activities and so we decided a really fun way to activate the space would be to introduce a street mural and we'll be introducing some movable furniture during some specific events,” said Jen Francis, Parks Planner for Burlington Parks & Recreation Department.
7 artists competed to paint the mural.
The winner is Abby Manock. She'll start painting on September 8. The work culminates with the city's first Open Streets event being held on the 21st.
