CLARENDON, Vt. -  Neighbors in one town are on edge after a bobcat attack this weekend.

Steven Pomerleau heard commotion outside his Clarendon home Saturday. Turns out a bobcat crawled through a vent and ended up under his house for 5 hours.

The animal badly injured several house cats outside at the time before finally exiting and facing the homeowner.

Fearing for his neighborhood's safety Pomerleau shot and killed the predator.

"It came out and I didn't feel it was safe for that thing to be roaming around," Pomerleau said. "It was really scary. I've never seen something like that roaming around in this part of the woods."

The Department of Health confirmed the bobcat had rabies. This incident is just the fourth rabid bobcat in the state since 2007.

Pomerleau and others who handled the dead animal are now getting rabies shots. Officials urge anyone whose cat was involved in the Cold River Road attack do the same.
