NEWPORT, Vt. - The Northeast Kingdom has special reason to celebrate the newly passed farm bill.

Part of the 5 year plan includes making sure rural economic area partnership or REAP continues for the area.

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and USDA rural development celebrated the news.

Under the program, the NEK will continue to receive federal funding for business development, job creation, housing, and more. The NEK REAP zone was created in 2000, since then it's brought millions into the region.

"When I look at the NEK, I look at what it's done," Sen. Leahy said. "$68million has come into the Kingdom since we began it."

In addition to the Northeast Kingdom, there are three other reap zones around the country. Two of them are in New York.
