BURLINGTON, VT- You don't see this everyday, tree climbing as a competitive sport, and these guys aren't afraid of heights.

The 26th Annual New England International Tree Climbing Championship kicked off on Saturday at Oakledge Park.

35 competitors barked up some of the tallest trees in the area.

"They get into this event they like it. The commraderie with these climbers is amazing. They come from all over new england. They either work for professional tree care companies or they own one," said Warren Spinner, a Burlington City Arborist.

Burlington Parks and Rec., Branch Out Burlington, and New England International Society of Arboriculture hosted the event.

The International Olympics of Tree Climbing in Milwaukee Wisconsin is in August, where winners from Burlington will compete against some of the best tree climbers in the world.
