BURLINGTON, Vt. - According to the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department, the south end of North Beach is closed for E. coli testing. Swimming at this time is not permitted in this area.

Officials say that found elevated levels of the bacteria in a test on Monday. A second test was done Tuesday and the results are expected back on Wednesday.

The central and northern portion of the beach passed all tests and is open for swimming.

Officials say this is the first closure in more than a year.
