Plans to Make Parking More High Tech and Efficient in Montpelier
By Joe Gullo
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Parking in Montpelier is about to get high tech and more efficient.
The traffic committee and police department plan on replacing current parking meters with new smart meters.
Right now, officials are trying to figure out how much the upgrades will cost. Montplier's Police Chief, Anthony Facos, says the new meters will dramatically increase efficiency for his department and you.
"The individual space meters that, again, are able to accept your debit and credit cards as an option, as well as coin and cash, and also these would be solar powered," Facos said.
The chief says pavement sensors could also be installed. Those would alert police of parking violations in progress and reset the meter when a car pulls away.
There's no time frame on when the new meters will be installed.
