KILLINGTON, Vt. - Two people were shot in an apartment on Killington Road in Killington early Sunday morning.

Vermont State Police say Justin Bitar and Karl Albert assaulted Matt Dunn before the shooting. After the alleged assault, Dunn left the residence for a short time before returning.

Police say when Dunn returned, he got into another altercation with Bitar. During the fight, a gun was fired twice, striking both Dunn and Jessica Martome in the leg.

Martome and Dunn were transported to Rutland Regional Hospital for treatment of their gunshot wounds.

Dunn, Martome, and Bitar all live in the apartment together.

Bitar is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of recklessly endangering another person, and one count of while committing a crime. Albert is charged with one count of simple assault.

Bitar was lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center for a lack of $25,000 bail. Albert was cited and released.
