Police Continuing to Investigate Homeless Man's Death
By Joe Gullo
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Burlington Police continue to investigate the death of a homeless man over the weekend.
Police have identified the man who died as 40-year-old Forrest Bryant. The man was living in a camp with other people on Pine Street.
Police are questioning Mark Delude, 52, of Burlington, Vt. Police say Delude, like Bryant, is also a transient.
"Delude was involved in an altercation with Bryant on the night that he died. After Bryant was found, apparently deceased, several witnesses at the scene described that delude was attempting to prevent people from calling police and rescue personnel," Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling said.
Delude was arrested on Saturday and held on an unrelated trespassing charge. His bail was reduced to $1,000. That's when, Monday afternoon, police charged him with obstruction of justice.
The cause of death for the victim is still pending autopsy. Police say he did have visible injuries, possibly from the altercation, though they were not severe.
Police do not know if Delude sustained injuries.
Police say there is no threat to the public.
