ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Police responded to a crash on Route 36 near the intersection of Rugg Road on Friday.

Police say there was one male occupant involved in the single car crash. Police have not released the driver's name, but say he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

"It appears from all indications that the vehicle came over the top of the hill and never really negotiated the curve and proceeded straight down across the bank and into the trees," St. Albans Police Chief Gary Taylor said.

It took rescue crews more than 30 minutes to secure the vehicle and remove the victim.

The road was closed for a brief period of time, but has been reopened.
